WorldViews: Photos of the day: Dubai goes a little overboard with fireworks celebration
Dubai has just won the right to host the World Expo in 2020, when it will become the first-ever Middle Eastern city to host the annual event also known as the World's Fair. Naturally, the wealthy Emirate city celebrated in the Dubai way, with a massive and elaborate fireworks display. While not quite as awe-inspiring as the 2010 opening ceremony for the Burf Khalifa, Dubai's 163-floor skyscraper, it was still pretty impressive. Did we mention that the Burf Khalifa shoots fireworks out of its sides? Here are some photos of the event:
